My wife and I have been married for 13 years and are grateful to God for the beautiful family He has blessed us with. We have 4 children from 10 months to 8 years of age. Hawke is our 4th child and is our miracle child! Hawke and his twin brother Jaxon were diagnosed with TTTS (Twin to twin transfusion) at 19 weeks, a rare condition where the identical twins share blood vessels and can be a fatal condition for the babies. With only 15 doctors in the nation performing the lifesaving surgery we were blessed that a Doctor in Michigan was experienced in treating the condition with laser ablasion. With the babies in the womb he burned the sharing vessels. The surgery was a success (Praise God). Unfortunately, early labor is a side-effect and my wife was hospitalized on bed rest for six weeks. Thanks to our amazing family and church family I continued to work as they helped take care of our girls at home. This was one of the most challenging experiences in my life and little did I know more ...

Ever Want ur child to have a fever? Welcome to hydrocephalus. . . Hawke was acting suspicious (lackadaisical , whiney) I was thinking shunt failure. Fever of 102 good indicator he caught what his brother had .. Pheww shunt failure / infection never out of the question but relieved as this is very likely what his bro had. Sent from my iPhone

"Some updated info on the ipad2 & programmable shunts. About a month ago, when the news spread that the ipad2 could alter the setting on a shunt, I took my 4 month old daughter in to be checked. I had just received the ipad and had been using it quite a bit without realizing its magnetic strength. Sure enough, her setting was off & had to be reset. I just took her back for her normal follow up visit & her nsg, Dr. Maher at University of Michigan told me that our visit prompted them to experiment with the ipad 2 & the programmable shunt. He said that in the 500 times that they put the two within 1-2 feet of eachother, it changed the setting EVERY time. His team has written up an article about it and has sent it to the editor of the journal of neurosurgery. He said that he wouldn't have guessed that the ipad could have magnets strong enough to do this & was surprised to see the results. You just never know but am glad we found out about this before any harm w...

Anyone particularly my hydrocephalus friends own or know of a good "special needs" toddler bed? Hawke still sleeps in a crib, particularly so he can't roll out or wake up and hurt himself without us aware. He has not grown out of it yet per say but I'm thinking about the next ideal bed pondering weather his mattress should be changed to accommodate his muscle tone / CP. I haven't even began. Searching yet, pls lv ur thoughts! Sent from my iPhone
